Long ago when loggers started to use big horses to log, many native loggers still used the Native Ponies. 

One cold winter day, a hard working team of Anishinaabe men were joking around with another team that had a big workhorse, teasing and betting who would get to the big pine on top of the hill by the end of the day to cut it down.

When the sun was just about to set the team with the big workhorse got to the big pine on the hill and cut it down first. It had been a very long day and it was getting cold. The workhorse could not pull out the big pine tree. The temperature had dropped and the big workhorse was very cold and tired. 

The Anishinaabe team used a Native Pony named Little Jim. He was little and black but very, very mighty. He had a heavy coat and special nostrils to keep out the cold. Little Jim pulled with all his might and dragged the big pine out of the bush before sunset.
